What to see and do in Bhutan

You will probably begin your trail around Bhutan by visiting Paro, an authentic town deeply rooted in the Buddhist religion. Fans of hiking can then leave for Paro Valley, along the eponymous river and wander through the fields, forests and small isolated villages. A visit to the Tango Buddhist Institute will remain one of the highlights of your trip, because the monks who will explain their daily routine. You will then leave to visit the temples of Tang Rimochen and their numerous ‘dzong’. You will discover this architectural style unique in the whole world. Visitors searching further isolation can make a detour to Takshang, one of the most important pilgrimage routes in the country. Perched on a cliff over 1800 feet high, the Tiger’s Nest of Takshang is truly a forgotten treasure. Finally, adventurers in search of even more imposing landscapes will be very satisfied by choosing a trek through the high Himalayan passes. At an altitude of more than 15,000 feet above sea level, the view over the valleys, villages and forests is simply breath-taking. Off the beaten track, and well away from all civilisation, you will discover a wild country untouched by time.
