The best time of year to visit the Philippines is from mid-December to mid-May, when the risk of typhoons is at its lowest. Definitely opt for this period if possible, though you should be aware that the Banaue rice terraces are actually at their most beautiful in June and July.

December to May

The Philippines has a number of quite wonderful beaches to offer. You will also have no problem finding one away from the crowds if you want to enjoy complete solitude. If you like diving however, opt for places like Malapascua or Sipalay instead, which are busier and more lively. Try to visit in the dry season from December to May if possible.

December to May

It hardly needs stating that the Philippines is famous for its volcanoes. The lunar-like landscape of Pinatubo is a good place to go hiking and it is possible to climb to the summit of Kanlaon on the island of Negros. However, the most impressive volcano is Mount Mayon, which is still active and producing smoke from its cone today. Opt for the dry season if planning to visit the Philippines' volcanoes.

December to June

The Philippines is a quite exceptional playground for both keen scuba divers and snorkelers. Three of the best diving sites are Boracay, Anilao and Alona Beach. It is also possible to try your hand at surfing or sailing, and why not even kitesurfing perhaps! If you visit between December and May, you will avoid the rain, and diving is possible right through till June.

December to July

Visitors generally do not expect to see so many crops growing in the Luzon region, so it comes as something of a surprise to them. A large amount of land in the area has been converted into rice fields, of which the Banaue terraces are undoubtedly the most beautiful. Visit and admire this wonderful landscape when it transforms into a virtual sea of green between December and July, preferably in the months of June and July if possible.

January, April and October

The Philippines is famous for its wonderful and highly colourful festivals. One essential event to experience is of course the Ati-Atihan Festival and its carnival, which take place in Kalibo in January. However, the Masskara Festival held in Bacolod in October and the Moriones Festival held in Marinduque in April are both also worthy of a mention. These are the Philippines' best-known festivals and visiting them is highly recommended; in fact the experience is worth the trip alone!
