A destination often favoured by mountain lovers, most of Montenegro is covered by forest. But it's also home to the Adriatic Sea, with Big Beach that stretches for 14 km long, the UNESCO classified old town of Kotor, as well as the much celebrated Budva. From north to south, a wealth of sights and sounds await the visitor. To the north and east, you've got the Durmitor and Prokletyes National Parks, both incredibly beautiful and where you'll be trudging through snow in the morning yet going for a dip later in the day! Daily life remains traditional and many farmers still live without electricity - but that doesn't mean the welcome isn't warm. Lake Skadar, meanwhile, is the largest lake in the Balkans, extending as far as Albania. A migration hotspot, there's no better place to spot hundreds of different bird species in the dawn's early light. Medigovići, Perast, the Gulf of Kotor, are just some other places that will make your trip to Montenegro a truly unforgettable experience. See more

What to see and do in Montenegro

The information on Montenegro is intended to give you ideas as you plan your upcoming trip. You can start your tour at the former capital of Cetinje. Even though it has great museums, you'll be itching to head off to Europe's deepest fjord - the Boka Kotorska. You can hike across the Durmitor National Park, enjoy walking around its quiet perimetre, be blown away by the depths of the Tara River Canyon or take time to enjoy the locals' wonderful hospitality. Thrill seekers can go rafting down the Tara, whilst beach lovers can laze on the white sands of the Bar or Petrovac regions. A visit to the largest city in the Adriatic coast, Ulcinj, with its magnificent fortress will certainly be one of the highlights of your Montenegrin adventure. Explore the Ada Bojana Delta, a small island formed by sand banks, nestled between a river and the open sea. Adventurers amongst you may want to scale Bobotov, with its 2,500m summit and from where you'll get panoramic views of the valleys below. You'll be spoiled for choice during your trip to Montenegro, thanks to the wealth of activities and landscapes on offer in a country where lakes, forests, sea, mountains and rivers live in perfect harmony.
